Foods For Balancing Your Chakras

The importance of working to maintain our inner health, as well as our physical health, is very much starting to get a far wider acceptance in society then ever before. Regular Reiki sessions should be booked and regarded as vital as visits to the gym / going out walking, running or cycling / improving our fitness. We need to be fit on the inside too for greater emotional, physical and mental balance and wellbeing.

Our internal health can be maintained by regular treatments to clear energy blockages, such as Reiki, Yoga & Meditation but also is very much aided by what we eat and it is vital to look at the source of what you consume. We take on the good & bad energy of food, just as we do the energy of another human or situation. Below is a list of Food that can help balance your chakras, this is not an exhaustive list. One thing you may notice is that often foods that are the same/similar colour to the chakra, work well with that particular chakra.


Root / Base Chakra (Red)

Foods: Red apples, beets, tomatoes, pomegranates, chilli, strawberries, raspberries, radish, carrots, sweet potato, spinach, turnips, onion, nuts, ginger & garlic. Spices: Paprika, cayenne, turmeric & horseradish

Properties:  I AM. This is our survival centre, our foundation & located at the base of the spine (sexual organs). It supports the legs, feet, digestive system and emotional balances. It often becomes blocked as it controls our survival, when imbalanced, our insecurity, loneliness or fear are heightened. It supplies energy for the suprarenal glands, spine, kidneys and bladder and is associated with: life, birth, creation and physical vitality. In Reiki, the root chakra is often used in combination with other chakras to ground, balance and heal emotional imbalances. 


Sacral Chakra (Orange)

Foods: Orange, mango, pumpkin, melon, papaya, carrots, orange peppers, peaches, apricots, nuts, sweet potatoes, seeds, flax, almonds, walnuts, sesame, coconut. Spices: cinnamon. Drink plenty of water, coconut water and herbal teas for hydration. Foods rich in Omega-3s i.e. for vegan's:  chia seeds, ground linseed, hemp seeds and walnuts & for pescatarians: non-farmed salmon is recommended

Properties: I FEEL. Positioned above the naval, the Sacral Chakra supplies energy to the legs, glands and reproductive organs. Our passion & pleasure centre that governs emotion, senses, intimacy, creativity and connection. Imbalance's cause commitment issues, lack of motivation, confidence, depression, urinary/reproductive issues & back pain.


Solar Plexus Chakra (Yellow)

Foods: Banana, pineapple, lemon, yellow pepper, apricots, whole grains, oats, brown rice, spelt, rye, beans, vegetables and sprouted grains.

Properties: Personal Power / I DO. Controls our willpower, goals and purpose, ambition, action, inner peace and self-control. Located at the upper abdomen and supplies energy to the gall bladder, liver, spleen, digestion, pancreas, stomach and emotions. It represents the centre of the body and where food is assimilated, turned into energy and distributed throughout the body. Imbalance causes feelings of insecurity and stomach issues, such as, ulcers, chronic indigestion and overall stomach pain. Eating the appropriate foods provides the fibre and energy to remain balanced and centred.


Heart Chakra (Green)

Foods: Green raw foods such as Kale, broccoli, green beans, spinach, lettuce, cucumber, zucchini, avocado, lime, peas, kiwi, Spirulina, green apples, bean sprouts, couscous, beans/lentils, brown rice.

Properties: ILOVE. Located in the middle of the chest, the Heart Chakra is our spiritual growth, compassion, devotion, love and joy. Balanced heart chakras keep our relationships (with everyone) and our self-worth strong. It supplies energy to the liver, lungs, thymus gland, upper heart and the circulation system, to our upper torso, shoulders, hands and arms. Imbalance causes low energy, aggression, anxiety, heart issues, lack of self-worth and in extremes, paranoia. The Heart Chakra has both masculine & feminine energies and is good for balancing all the chakras.


Throat Chakra (Blue)

Foods: Blueberries, blackberries, dragon fruit, herbal teas, ginseng, wheat grass, mushrooms & kelp. Drinks made of lemon, honey & herbal teas &, as always, water provide soothing and healing energies. 

Properties: Communication - I SPEAK. Positioned in the centre of the neck, the Throat Chakra supplies energy to the throat, thyroid gland, upper lungs, arms, shoulders and digestive tract. It is our communication centre, our self-expression, intuition, honesty and integrity. Imbalances lead to communication and inability to speak up/ speak our truth plus sinus, neck & shoulder issues.


Third Eye Chakra (Indigo)

Foods: Eggplant, grapes, prunes, blackcurrant, plums, purple cabbage, kale & lettuce, wheat germ, cacao and any additional foods that stimulate the brain function. Herbs & spices such as Rosemary, sage, thyme, vanilla, lavender and tea tree all help balance this chakra.

Properties: - Intuition - I SEE. Located in the middle of the forehead, just above the eyebrows, this chakra supplies the energy to the central nervous system, left eye, nose, ears, lower brain, spine and pituitary gland. Emotionally it works with our psychic perception, extrasensory perception (ESP) and telepathy as it is our wisdom centre. A balanced Third Eye Chakra allow us to focus, see clearly and trust our own intuitions, imbalance causes lose of direction, sleep difficulties and headaches. 

The Crown Chakra (Purple) 

Foods: There are no specific foods for this chakra as it is focused on fasting and detoxing. Exercise and healing such as Meditation, Reiki & Yoga boost the energy & clear the mind, aiding the balancing of the crown chakra. Herbs & Oils: Juniper, Frankincense, Lavender & Sage.

Properties: Spirituality - I UNDERSTAND. Located at the top of the head and supplies energy to the upper brain, pineal glands & right eye, it is most commonly associated with enlightenment, intuition and spirituality. It is good to work on this chakra if people are experiencing confusion, insignificance, depression, disconnection, headaches or a sensitivity to light. A balanced Crown Chakra allows us to discover greater wisdom, joy and understanding of self & the world as a whole.

The Crown, Third Eye & Throat Chakra's are feminine in nature and aid self-reflection and spiritual aspects of our lives. 

This is one topic I will be constantly learning and discovering about, as with anything, follow your intuition around what you need and want to maintain balance and harmony for you personally.
