Nature's Antibiotics

Modern medicine has a lot to answer for, in my opinion! Don't get me wrong, the discovery of penicillin, in 1928, & the subsequent use of antibiotics on infections saved lives but their use has become so widespread and over used that they can have an adverse affect on the human body & infections, such as the 'super bugs' that have emerged as a result. Worrying can also create disease and illness as our immune systems become weakened through fear.

We need to go back to using natural antibiotics and age old remedies and try and reverse the epidemic of gut infections and autoimmune diseases due to the over use of antibiotics. Antibiotics do not resolve all the problems, in fact they cause additional issues and should really only be used as a last resort. They affect the healthy bacteria in our stomachs & impact our overall health. Incorporating nature's own healing products into our every day lives is vital. 

Nature provides some amazing antibiotics & combined with holistic practices, such as Reiki, Yoga, Meditation or Sound Healing, & emotional healing work to remove old damaging thought patterns, can really transform our health. There is far too much money to made by the massive pharmaceutical companies, they certainly do not want to encourage nature healing and so it is up to us to break this cycle ourselves.

It always make me think of my trip to the doctor's last year & he wanted to prescribe an antidepressant to relieve the pain in my jaw, it had slipped out following a old injury from a car accident many years previously. I declined & fixed it myself with Reiki, meditation & healthy eating. When I went into my local pharmacy recently to get plasters, she said "I have not seen you for ages", I replied "I do not get sick, if anything happens I fix it myself", I am very lucky & grateful to be in this position but you can be too. We are 'trained' that going to the doctors 'is the only solution', no it is no, we can break this cycle.

These are some of the best natural antibiotics available and I have added a brief description for each, there is so much more information online.

Apple Cider Vinegar (with the mother), I take this every morning with water and use the Biona variety from WholeFoods but there are many options. The organic, unfiltered variety that contains “the mother" has strands of proteins, enzymes and friendly bacteria that give the product a murky, cobweb-like appearance and include the more health properties.

Cayenne Pepper is one of my favourite spices & I add it to everything, even mushrooms with eggs for breakfast sometimes. Now I know why, with all it's healing properties! It totally makes sense why I am drawn to it so much. It is great for cleansing & detoxifying; clearing congestion; migraine prevention and an anti-irritant, in fact the list is endless! 

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil for cooking, spreading and even applying to your hair and skin, it tastes, and smells, lovely, which is an added bonus. It has been known to improve digestion, assist weight loss, treat yeast infections and aid our immunity against a long list of infections and diseases.

Ginger is one of the most delicious & healthy spices for your body and and your brain. It contains Gingerol, a powerful medicinal substance and has anti-cancer properties. It can be used to treat nausea, especially morning sickness; anti-inflammatory which can help with osteoarthritis; reduce muscle & menstrual pain and soreness and lower blood sugars and cholesterol levels; improve heart disease risk and relieve chronic indigestion. I have it with hot water as drink, in food and in both fresh and as a ground spice (this is said to be more potent form).

Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) has antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal properties and it is used for the treatment of candida, earaches, throat infections, UTI's, skin conditions and upset stomachs. It is recommended to get a good quality product from a reputable company, as with everything we buy, checking the additional ingredients is very important. It is also said to be good for killing fungi and bacteria in laundry, in carpets, for sterilising rooms, in hot tubs and humidifiers and disinfecting surfaces, so not only good for internal body use but the home and office too. 

Horseradish - One of the best natural antibiotics for fighting & preventing disease. Particularly for respiratory issues from the common cold to pneumonia; urinary tract infections; skin disorders & intestinal parasites; headaches; water retention; colic & gallbladder problems.

When treating certain conditions, horseradish is just as effective as chemically-synthesised antibiotics and it can sometimes even be superior to over-the-counter drugs. Horseradish is particularly potent in the treatment of sinusitis and it clears upper respiratory passages, which helps with cold, influenza and lung congestion." Manuka Honey has stronger antibiotic properties than other types of honey but all are good for you, provided they do not have added sugars. For Hayfever it is advised to have local honey, especially before the season starts to build up resistances to allergies from pollen.

Pau d'Arco (Additional names: Ipe Roxo / Lapacho or Lapachol) is a herb from the inner bark of the taheebo tree and has been used for hundreds of years for it's medicinal purposes, to heal and recover the body, and has many antibacterial properties. It strengthens the body's immune system, especially if it has been weakened by a whole host of issues. Again this is great for flu, fever, arthritis, diabetes, bacteria, cancer, liver disease and skin disorders, such as eczema. It can be found in capsules, teas and extracts, choose the one best for the condition you are looking to heal or prevent.

Turmeric, like all the other natural antibiotics, has a long list of healing properties. It is the most powerful herb for fighting and reversing disease and is especially known to help with arthritis, diabetes & depression. It is anti-inflammatory and can be taken as capsules and the spice added to cooking and refreshments. When researching, there are 6235 articles that have been written proving the benefits of turmeric, amazing! 

Others at the top of the list for our optimum health include: Echinacea, Garlic, Olive Leaf Extract, Oregano Oil, their properties can be found online or at the library. 

Many are superior to medications, such as the Curcumin found in Turmeric so they are most definitely worth investigating. Your body may go through a detoxing / cleansing period initially as they work to reverse the damage done by conventional drugs but stick with it, they really can help.
